Athens, May 27.- Cuban Grand Master Leinier Dominguez strengthened his leadership today in the FIDE Grand Prix Chess, based in the Greek city of Thessaloniki, beating Uzbek Rustam Kasimdzhanov in the fifth round.

Dominguez, the best Latin American chess player for several years, defeated Kasimdzhanov with blacks in 39 moves of a Bogo-Indian defense, to reach 3.5 points and also get his third straight victory.

The Cuban player, with 2.723 Elo units, is ahead of the Russian-born American Gata Kamsky for 0.5 points, who on Monday drew with Ukrainian Vassily Ivanchuk in 25 moves of a Caro Kann defense.

One point behind Dominguez appear Russians Alexander Grischuk and Alexander Morozevich, Bulgarian Veselin Topalov and Italian Fabiano Caruana.

Today Grischuk drew with Ukrainian Ruslan Ponomariov in 46 moves of a Ruy Lopez opening, Morozevich drew with French Etienne Bacrot, in 81 moves of a Gruenfeld defense, Topalov did the same against Russian Peter Svidler in 43 moves of a Queen’s Gambit, and Caruana against American Hikaru Nakamura in 84 moves of a Gruenfeld.

Tomorrow Dominguez will face Hakamura and the other commitments will be Grischuk-Morozevich, Caruana-Bacrot, Kasimdzhanov Tapalov-Kamsky-Svidler and Ponomariov-Ivanchuk. (Prensa Latina)
