One of the biggest problems for many chess players is how to finish off a better or won game. It is Black to move. How should Black continue? This was an actual game of mine from this afternoon (blitz game).

I like 1. … Kf7, ending White’s counterplay before the finishing touches are applied to White’s king! 🙂
1…Ne2 is a pretty finish!
Wouldn’t 1. … Ne2 2. Qxe2 Qxe2 3. f7+ Kf8 4. fxe8+ give White too much counterplay?
Argh! Worse yet…
1. … Ne2 2. Qxe2 Qxe2 3. f7+ Kf8 4. Bh6+ followed by fxe8=Q+
However, in the line “1. … Ne2 2. Qxe2 Qxe2 3. f7+ Kf8 4. Bh6+ followed by fxe8=Q+ ” wouldn’t 3…Kh7! avoiding a back rank check while threatening mate on g2 be better?

Still, 1… Kf7 looks best.
Only then 2…Ne2 -+
On 1…Ne2 White doesn’t have to play 2. Qxe2 he can simply play: 2. Rf2 and things look dim for Black.
I agree with celticdeath’s 1…Kf7. White is not going anywhere and the move activates black’s rook for action. Why give white counterplay if you don’t have to?
Susan, what move did you play?
I played Kf7 and the game was over a few moves later. This was a blitz game against a 2700 GM.
