ChessCube’s Online Tournament Breaks Records

Cape Town, South Africa – 01 February 2011

ChessCube, the world leader in online chess tournaments, with over 20,000 tournaments per month, ran a successful $3,000 online series, which ended 30 January 2011.

The ‘WarZone Chess’ (TM) series ran with 486 separate events; 22,414 entries; over 550,000 games and over 30 million moves!

“We believe we have broken all known world records for online chess tournaments”, said ChessCube CEO, Mark Levitt.

Using a model normally only seen in Poker tournaments, the $3,000 ‘Warzone Chess’ (TM) Series was made up of a series of satellite or qualifying events. The series offered two sections, the Elite over-1800 section, with time handicaps and an under-1800 section with time and point handicaps.

“We are now working with a number of partners to host live chess tournaments, powered by ChessCube, on their own websites”, said Levitt, “and to give them the same capability to extend their brands. Any chess organizer with their own website and user base can now provide a compelling service to their users, with additional tools to earn revenue. We will be opening up these services more widely during February and March”.

The chess world welcomes innovative online systems like WarZone Chess that generate excitement and interest”, said Malcolm Pein, the owner of the London Chess Center. “The ability to offer handicaps to less-skilled players, brings the brand of chess that was popular in the 19th century into the 21st. Combining this with the fast-paced action of Warzone Chess creates a dynamic new form of the world’s most enduring game.”
