1 … Q:c3+
wins instantly,
since if
2. bc Ba3#
and if either the Q or B interposes then the R is left hanging, with more material to follow.
Sorry, no the R doesn’t hang … but if 2. Bc2 Q:c2+ 3. Q:c2 bc and black is up Rook for pawn.
1. – , Qxc3+! 2. bxc3, Ba3#
b) 2. Qc2, bxc2 loses also.
That’s one of the most elegant checkmate I have seen in a long time
… Qxc3+!!
bxc3 Ba3#
Unbelievable.
Qxc3+!
BTW, after 1. – , Qxc3+ 2. Qc2 it’s 2. – , b2#
Brute force:
1. … Qxc3+
2. bxc3? Ba3# (yes, it is mate)
Or black is up with a full rook and wins most easily after:
2. Bc2 Qxc2+ (enforced)
3. Qxc2 bxc2
4. Kxc2
White should try:
2. Qc2 Qxc2+ (still rather enforced)
Is the same as above, but not:
2. … bxc2?
3. bxc3! Ba3+
4. Kxc2
with no gain for black.
1. … Qxc3+
2. bxc3 Ba3#
2. Bc2 Qd2+
3. Kb1 bxc2+
Up a rook.
Qc3:+
Qxc3+
