A, C, B, D
NOT BECAUSE I want to see it BUT to END the controversy once and for all! The Topalov/Kramnik match. The best possible thing would be to get rid of any speculation that Kramnik deserves anything at all… Unfortunately there is always the possiblilty that Kramnik may win which I can’t see would be good for chess at all! But either way CHESS WILL SURVIVE!
A n B. Though I agree game B would be good for Chess in general.
1) B
2) A
3) C
4) D
I would only be interested in A and/or B. Unification of the title is important for the World Championship to once again be unambiguous. Adjectives such as “Classical-” or “Vice-” tarnish, or make meaningless, the concept of World Champion.
The scenario that I would like to see is for the winner of the unification match to then play Anand. Whoever would pass through that gauntlet would truly be a Champion that all could honor.
Unless the resultant Champion agrees to defend his crown in a reasonable, set period of time then we will soon be back in the wilderness again.
Topalov/Kramnik is the most attractive match out there. We get an undisputed champ out of it and it ends the schism created in 1993, by Garry Kasparov.

Fischer vs Karpov in Fischer Random Chess!
Fischer vs. Susan Polgar in Fischer Random Chess. That’s better 🙂

It’s A
Kramnik is horribly out of form. I am sure Topalov agreed only because of the money. At present he is a much better player than Kramnik.
There is NO controversy IMO. Other than Kramnik, nobody thinks he is the world champion.
Topalov-Anand would be the best for chess. Unfortunately, politics rules the world, not chess. So for the sake of ending all the controversy, I would like to see Topalov-Kramnik. However, FIDE should make it mandatory for Kramnik to agree, in advance, that if he wins the title won’t be his private property and he has to abide by FIDE rules. If Topalov wins, everything will be fine and he will be the legit world champion. If Kramnik wins, he will again try to make the world championship his private propery; so I am a little concerned about that.
I agree with samikd
Anand in any scenario would not get to play any of them for the chamionship on the line.
He would have to play in a candidates match first and be the winner.
The standard for that would be after 3 years but in this case, the next classical champion match should take place in 2007.
Just to be clear.
I do not think Anand deserves to play in a match for the championship of Chess even if he were the #1 rated player of the world.
They don’t give out championsips in Basketball or football or tennis or Golf to the player who won the most games in a year.
It goes to the player who defeats everyone else in Match play
Nothing beats the method that Chess used for the past century.
“They don’t give out championsips in Basketball or football or tennis or Golf to the player who won the most games in a year. It goes to the player who defeats everyone else in Match play”
Michael C.M , your knowledge about the games you just mentioned seems to be pathetic, to say the least. Which one of the above games have the system of match play, can you please tell me ? (and that applies to both football and soccer, as I dont know which one you meant).
Even in chess, nobody ever beat ‘everyone else’ in match play. There were only one match.
Actually golf was a bad example (except for the Rider Cup), but all the rest have playoff system in place, where you don’t get to the finals without beating opponents one at at ime in a match. So even the team who qualifies for the playoffs as a Wildcard can and has won the Super Bowl.
Much more exciting than taking the the two players with the highest ranking and ignoring all the rest.
C A B D – Topalov vs Hydra (or Rybka) I want to believe Topalov can win but I’m afraid it’s impossible.
A, B, D, C
B, A, C, D.
Let’s unify the World Champion Title with classical chess time control, and a match with a reasonable number of games (>12) to provide for determining a legitimate champion.
Kramnik/Topalov. Apparently Kramnik has made concessions that if he were to win then he would play in the WCC tournament that follows.
B, A,D,C
my ask is – how many games?
for sure i’d prefer a 24 game match shoot out: Kramnik vs. Topalov (classical time controls)- 12:12 result – Topalov keeps his title
second choice:
a 24 game match shoot out: Topalov vs. Anand (classical time controls)- even better would be a 24 games shoot out Kramnik vs. Anand – with challenger right for a WC match against Topalov! (classical rules … a fascinating vision, at least to me!)
third:
i recommend the ban of any opening book, endgame book and table base usage for chess computers, allowing only hash tables of any size if performing against humans (by the way: the usage of those appliances for chess computers or software in serious events sounds to me like allowing ferrari cars to participate on olympic 100 m events … to reach out for gold!)
no computer vs. machine match in chess anymore (computer chess is a white elephant – in my eyes)
fourth choice:
Topalov vs. world (i remember a simul of Kramnik vs. world on kasparovchess a few years ago … i missed to draw one of 20 lots – maybe i’ll stand a new chance … ^^)
happy easter, your Vohaul
I only prefer legitimate champions. Fischer vs. Deep Blue!
world championship? yawn… when is the chess world going to wake up and create grand slam events like the golf and tennis? wouldn’t it be more exciting to win lets say, the u.s. open, the euro open, the indian and chinese open. even call one of the masters. the world championship should be done like march madness in college basketball with brackets and everything. there hasn’t been an exciting world championship ever except Fisher vs. Spassky. c’n people, wake up!
First things first.
we must unify no matter what. that is a huge step toward normalizing chess as a sport.
Definitely Topalov vs Kramnik must take place first. there will be huge interest because everyone wants to have the title unified.
playing machines and the world is boring stuff and meaningless. such games are of no consequence.
Next we really must have an old fashioned match of 24 games between Topalov and Anand. they are within one point of each other and Anand has been at the top for a very long time. this match is the match that will draw huge interest because everyone wants to know who is the best player.
Being an Anand fan, and seeing how he is never considered for the fake title shots, despite being in top 5 for God knows how long, it hurts to say this, but B needs to be done. Life sucks.
