HAGERSTOWN — Several local students participated this weekend in the Maryland State Scholastic Chess Championships at the Hagerstown Hotel and Convention Center.

The event was an individual and combined team tournament. Team scores are the top four players from the same school in each of nine sections. Each section represented a different skill level.

Each competitor plays five rounds. Players earned a point by winning a game or half a point by drawing or tying.

Representing Boonsboro Middle School, as individuals in the two-day championship, were Dominic Smith-DiLeo, a sixth-grader with 2.5 points, and Vincent Smith-DiLeo, an eighth-grader with 2 points.

Everyone else listed below played Saturday, said Mike DiLeo, one of the organizers.
