1. Bg6+ Kg7 2. Bh7+ forces mate by preventing black from guarding the h-pawn with the rook. If 2. … Kxh7, then 3. Rh3. If 2. … Kh8, then Qxh6.
and what about
1.Bg6 fxg6(!!) (ehhh – to be honest, two exclamation marks too much …)
2.fxg6+ Kf7 -+ … :))
but i don’t think 2.fxg6+ is the correct move – much better is
2.rxg6 – and i don’t see any defense against 3.qxh6#
back to richard’s line
1.bg6+ kg7
2.bh7+ kxh7
3.rh3? rh8!
and the rook “x-ray’s” the field h6 and gives the king a little room on g8 (remember – white’s rook is on h3!) as a result – the line should be improved with
1.bg6+! kg7
2.bh7+! kxh7
3.rg6! …
with inevitable mate by 4.qxh6
greetings from germany
by the way – dortmund sparkassen meeting has just started – watch Kramnik, Aronian, Adams, Leko, Svidler and company (you may also watch US Irina Krush in her match against germany’s female chess player no.1 elisabeth paehtz – a few days ago crushed by the famous, the incredible and mostly known GM Susan Polgar … 🙂 in Dresden)live @:

1.rh3
bg6 kg7
bh7 kh7
rg6 just take the rook
bg6 kg7
bh7 kh7
rh3 rh8
qh6 & mate next
At last, a problem even I could solve! I must say it was rather easy, I probably remember this from one of Marshall’s games:
1. Bg6+ fg
2. Rxg6 any
3. Qxh6 mate
or if
1……..Kh8
2. Qxh6+ Kg8
3. Qh7 mate
or if
1……..Kg8
2. Qxh6 and mate next move!
or if
1……..Kg7
2. Bh7+ Kh8
3. Qxh6 and mate next move!
or if
1……..Kg7
2. Bh7+ Kxh7
3. Rh3 and mate is unstoppable!
