Norway and the host city Tromsø wish you a warm welcome to the 41st Chess Olympiad in 2014 and World Cup 2013.

Chess players around the world will discover a friendly and open-minded population with hotels of excellent international standard, an attractive restaurant scene and diverse cultural activities.

Facts:

• With more than 150 participating countries, the Chess Olympiad is the world’s third largest sporting event.
• Around 600 million people play chess worldwide and Norway is home to the world’s best chess player, Magnus Carlsen.
• A total of 1500 chess players are coming to Tromsø to participate in the Chess Olympiad.
• We have an ambition of 100 million unique internet spectators through the Olympiads Internet Portal.
• A 14-day cultural happening is planned for the period August 1-14, 2014 in connection with the Chess Olympiad.
