Botswana Chess Federation (BCF )will host Botswana International Open Chess Championships from 30th September to the 4th October 2015 at Legae Academy.
Botswana International Open is renowned for bringing together the best chess players from across Southern Africa.
The BCF has extended invitations to other reputable players from around Africa and have so far received registrations from Zambia, Zimbabwe , Malawi and South Africa.
The BCF has successfully held this annual tournament over a number of years.
“We have been supported profoundly by Kalahari Associates Botswana and Debswana Diamond Company through sponsorship. This has gone a long way in enhancing the reputation of the event and making it the biggest chess event in the BCF Calendar,” revealed the BCF Publicity Director Keenese Katisenge.
Botswana International Open is one of the most anticipated events in the Botswana chess calendar and is the only major chess event in Botswana where the chess family sees many players from the SADC region competing fiercely for the coveted prize.
The 2014 tournament was won by International Master Chitumbo Mwali of Zambia in the open section, while Woman International Master Onkemetse Francis won the ladies Section.
According to Katisenge the event has earned its position as the country’s best attended event and this has distinctively been driven among others by the following salient features.
The Publicity Director noted that the event brings in an array of players with different chess understanding and strength.
She added that the event further presents opportunities for younger players to test their strength against Africa’s toughest players.
