Q: When did you start playing chess, and who taught you how to play?
A: I started playing chess at the end of my kindergarten year. My sister taught me.

Q: I understand that matches can last as long as two hours. How do you keep your focus?
A: Actually, matches can go up to four hours. Sometimes I do need to take a break for a few minutes and then go back.

Q: How much of each game depends on your preparation, and how much is thinking on your feet?
A: Maybe about 65 percent is what I know already, and the other 35 percent is what I react to.

Q: How often do you practice?
A: Usually I play one game a day on ICC – that’s the Internet Chess Club. I also work with Mr. (Ray) Orwig, the chess director at our school, and (International Master) Mr. Ricardo de Guzman, my chess coach.
