Distinguished guest honored by Pasadena ISD (Texas)

At Pasadena ISD’s Awareness and Appreciation Luncheon, Superintendent Kirk Lewis offered an anecdote about a young student who had participated in his school’s chess club.

The student, Lewis said, told his teacher that chess after school for a few hours meant a “safe place” away from his neighborhood.

The luncheon was an opportunity to drive home the purpose of the district’s Education Foundation and its impact on students.

The event’s main speaker, A. Marcus Nelson, relayed that message to the hundreds of donors in attendance.

Nelson’s message had a resonant and relative purpose to the appreciative audience.

“The message is that hard work pays off,” Nelson said.

In Nelson’s case, hard work comes with purpose and dedication to the future of education.

As the Superintendent of Schools for the Laredo Independent School District, Nelson presides over more than 25,000 students on 32 campuses…
