Milwaukee Public Schools officials have revamped the attendance policies and introduced new security measures for high school chess matches after violence erupted at the conclusion of a match between Bradley Tech and Bay View last week.
“We had to do something,” MPS Superintendent William Andrekopoulos said. “What happened the other night was terrible and we can’t afford a repeat.
“The brawl took place Tuesday night in a multi-purpose room at Bradley Tech, 319 W. Virginia St. It began when nearly a dozen spectators rushed the main table, sending the time clock crashing to the floor, after Trojans all-conference selection Ling Xiong called “checkmate” in the deciding match against Redcats freshman star Bodjan Chzyjstyhyvyvychzi (BOY-on shasta-HOO-va-vich.)
“They were talking trash the whole match,” Tech coach Robert De Perry said. “It was ridiculous. Our players didn’t do or say anything to provoke anybody. Ling just stood up and pumped a fist and the place went crazy.
“During the three matches leading up to the final, spectators from both sides heckled the participants with cries of “We killed your horsie!” and “You can’t beat our Bishop.”

The first question that comes to mind is-
Where were the organisers and arbiters during all the events leading up to the final altercations?
Hey ggrayggray — before getting too upset, remember to check the dateline of the story!

This story is a parody of a serious postgame altercation that took place between the fans and basketball players of the two schools named in the article. The game itself was close and well-played, but someone started violence and it escalated, prompting additional security when the schools met again later in the season.
Aw, I was getting all ready to celebrate; how I love it when things like this breaks out over a silly game. And it would make a wonderful reality T.V. show. Ah well,
Maybe if phsyical sports teams and their fans adopted the “win with grace, lose with dignity” slogan, such outbursts wouldn’t happen.
