Checkmate: Wood-Ridge BOE nixes chess club, other activities

WOOD-RIDGE (July 10, 2008) — The Wood-Ridge Board of Education recently cut three extracurricular activities from its budget, including the high school’s chess club, math league and electronic club. The reasoning for the cuts was due in large part to the recent defeat of Wood-Ridge’s school budget, according to Michael Leary, who serves as business administrator and board secretary.

“(The decision) was one that the board had discussed and sadly had to agree on,” Leary said.
