Imagine sitting down to play Jenga with George Gervin or a game of chess with Matt Bonner. Friday students got the chance to do just that.

A day after game one of the Finals, the Spurs spent their off-day helping the NBA open a brand new NBA Cares Learn & Play Center at Bowden Elementary.

The renovated library is decked out in all things “silver and black” and features hi-tech learning tools like new tablets and touch-screen computers.

Friday afternoon several players were on hand to test out the technology alongside students.

“Middle of the finals, beginning of the season, or over the summer, it doesn’t matter what time of year it is,” said Spur Jeff Ayres. “It’s always great and gratifying to come and talk to these kids. It makes them so happy. It’s so cool to see their smiles. It’s awesome.”

During last year’s Finals, the Spurs and the NBA opened a Learn & Play Center at Wheatley Middle School.
