1. Qf6 e5
2. Nf5 Qf1+
3. Rxh1 Re7
4. Qh8#
White Wins
I can do in 6 and 7 as follows. Am trying again for 4:
1.Qf6 e5
(1…Rxe7 2.Qh8#)
(1…Qf1+ 2.Rxf1 Rxe7 3.Qh8#)
2.Rxe5 Qf1+
3.Kh2 Qxg2+
4.Kxg2 Bc6+
5.Kg3 Rxe7
6.Qh8#
1.Nf5 Qf1+
(1…exf5 2.Qh8#)
(1…fxg6 2.Qg7#)
2.Kh2 Qxg2+ 3.Kxg2 Bc6+ 4.Kg1 f6 5.Qxf6+ Kg8 6.Nxh6#
First move here is pretty obvious.
The speediest 2nd move needed more thinking.
1. Qf6 e5 (only move, Rxe7 Qh8#, else Qxf7#)
2. Rxe5 (looks natural)
Now Qh8# and Qxf7# can’t be guarded both, there is not Kg8.
2. … Qf1+
3. Kh2 Qh1+
4. Kxh1 any
5. Qh8#/Qxf7#
but this was one move to much.
So I try:
2. Qxe5 fxg6
3. Qf6+ Qf7
4. Qh8+ Qg8
5. Qxg8#
Well, then it has to be
1. Qf6 e5
2. Nf5! (of course) Qf1+ (Kg8 Qg7#, Qxd4 Qxf7#, else Qh8#)
3. Rxf1 mating next.
1. Qf6 e5
2. Rxe5 …
I think after this white in position to mate in next 2 moves as White queen is threatening a mate from h8 .
Black can use 2 moves in sacrifices.
omivi
1 Qf6
1. Df6 – e5
2. Ld3 – De6
3. Sg6+ – Kg8
4. Dh8 ##
Wouldn’t 1. Qf6 mate faster than 4 moves?
second try 🙂
1. Kf5!
although, blacks can delay the mate with Df1+ etc….
1.Nf5 exf5
2.Qh8#
Or
1.Nf5 thats force
1.Nf5 exf5
2.Qh8#
Or
1.Nf5 thats force
1)Qf6 e5
2)d5
if
2)… Qxd5
3)Nxe5 any
4)Qxf7#
else
2) … Qf1+
3)Rxf1 any
4)Qxf7#
To Guy:
1. Qf6 e5
2. d5? Qxd5
3. Nxe5 Kg8! (not any)
4. Qxf7+ Kh8
5. Qh7#
Just another solution that allmost worked…
Hopeless is:
1. Nf5?? exf5
2. Qh8+ Ke7 etc.
I liked vignes iyer’s solution.
1. Qf6 e5
2. Nf5!
looks pretty obvious to me.
