come on how am i supposed to do that in my head.. if anyone can do that in there head id be suprised..
Holy cow! This is hard!
Come on Susan. 17 moves? Many of us surf your blog without a chess set conveniently handy – or without much time to spare. Please be more reasonable and understanding of your audience the next time you post positions.
It would also help if you post solutions to all these puzzles, or at least, those where no one has the correct answer after a while.
I imagine something like pinning a Rook in b7 with the queen and then pushing the pawn in g7
1.Qa6+ Ra7 2.Qc6+ Rab7 3.Qa4+ Ra7 4.Qxb3 etc… but I just spent 2 minutes on it…
As often in longmovers the start is clear:
1. Qa6+ Ra7
2. Qc6+ Rbb7
(2. .. Rab7? 3. Qa4+ Ra7 4. Qxb3)
and now black can only move pawns..
3. g7 d2
(3. .. h3? 4. g8Q h2 5. Qa2!! and 6. Qxb7 mate)
4. g8Q d1Q
5. Qgd5!
And now
A)
5. .. Qxd5 6. exd5
and again Black can only move pawns e.g
6. .. g4
7. d6 g3 8. d7 g2 9. Qxg2 h3
10. Qe4 h2 11. d8N h1Q 12. Qxh1 e4
13. Qxe4 h4 14. Ne6 h3 15. Nc7 Mate
B) This is harder
5. .. Qg4+
6. Kd8! Kb8 7. Qdd6+ Rc7 8. Qb6+ Ka8 9. Qbxc7! Rxc7 10. Kxc7 Qc8+ 11. Kxc8 Ka7 12. Kc7 and 13. Qa4 Mate
or
7. .. Ka8 8. Ke8! Ra1 9. Qd8+ Ka7 10. Qc5+ Ka6 11. Qa8+ Ra7 12. Qac6 Mate
In fact I don’t see how Black can survive until move 17 :-))
Something like this
1.Qa6+ Ra7 2.Qc6+ Rbb7 3.g7 d2 4.g8Q d1Q 5.Qgd5 Qxd5 [5…Qg4+ 6.Kd8 Kb8 (6…h3 7.Ke8) 7.Qdd6+ Rc7 8.Qb6+ Ka8 9.Qbxc7 Rxc7 10.Kxc7 Qc8+ 11.Kxc8 Ka7 12.Kc7 h3 13.Qa3#] 6.exd5 g4 [6…e4 7.d6 e3 8.d7 e2 9.d8Q e1Q 10.Qdd6 Qe8+ 11.Qxe8 Rc7+ 12.Qxc7 Rxc7+ 13.Kxc7+ Ka7 14.Qa4#] 7.d6 g3 8.d7 g2 9.Qxg2 h3 10.Qc6 h2 11.d8Q h1Q 12.Qxh1 e4 13.Qxe4 h4 14.Qc7 h3 15.Qb8# 1-0
the two missing moves must correspond to a better defense that i didn`t find.
I only saw some lines. But calculate all without moving pieces is very hard (and for me impossible).
the first moves are obvious:
1.Qa6+ Ra7
2.Qc6+ Rbb7 (..Rab7 3.Qa4+ Ra7 4.Qxb3 +-)
3. g7 d2
4. g8Q d1Q (now white has to deal with Qc2 and Qa4 from black)
5.Qd5
and now
5. .. Qxd5 is lost
6.exd5 e4
7. d6 e3
8. d7 e2
9. d8Q e1Q
10.Qxb7+ Rxb7
11.Qa5+ Ra7
12.Qd5+ Rb7
13.Qxb7#
but after
5. ..Qh3+
6.Kd8 Qg4 maybe and pushing the h-pawn.
Tobe
