BUNDABERG Christian College student Wesley Stone knows what he wants when it comes to chess.

“It requires thinking and I like that,” Wesley said.

Wesley was one of more than 80 students to participate in the second round of Wide Bay North School Children’s Chess Championships which took place at Bundaberg State High School on Wednesday.

Wesley was also on the winning team with Bundaberg Christian College narrowly defeating rivals from Bundaberg State High School and Kepnock State High School.

Regional tournament director Ian Murray was impressed with the level of chess the students were playing.

“The high school students are really top level,” Mr Murray said.

“Bundaberg has a very active local chess club here which gives the kids a chance to practise, which is the secret to being a good chess player.”
