Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
I believe publicising these live ratings and calling them all time highs is flawed.
It is comparing older list ratings, which were only published once every three months, with real time, result after every game ratings.
The only rating that should be used for claims like- all time highest rating- is the one that is officially published by fide every two months.
Otherwise Kasparov’s rating after every game should be worked out to see if he ever acheived a rating higher than 2830 after one of his games.
Although calculating ratings after every game is extreme, they should be calculated after every event. Then have the ratings for the next event calculated on the basis of these new ratings, etc. This would produce more accurate ratings.
Indeed, all the FIDE ratings since their beginning in 1970 should be recalculated on this basis.
