My prediction remains 4-2.
As I said, the computer doesn’t get tired, doesn’t make mistakes and plays at 2800+.
So I do not see Kramnik winning and Fritz should be able to convert one more win.
Susan, you are too consistent and too optimistic. This showed a fatigue of human being. After WCC, Kramnik is not recovered yet. We will see more blunder after this one.
After 3.5-0.5 Kramnik will resign because he is exhausted, the game will not continue until 6 games.
Kramnik said:”Fritz punishes you immediately” and it did punish him immediately!
But this position will be very well known in Mate in 1 puzzles book of Beginners (Maybe you could also include it in your next revision of World Champion’s Guide to Chess)
I’m afraid this game will go down in the annals of chess as a Nietschean performance. Machine vs. human — all too human!
Before it started, I predicted 3.5 to 1.5, Fritz wins it in five games. Kramnik doesn’t need to resign after 3.5-0.5: the first to get a score greater than 3.0 wins!
I predicted that Deep Fritz would win 4.5 to 1.5 based on an expected rating of about 3000 for the computer. Even with these match conditions, I still foresee Kramnik losing badly.
Ever hear the folk ballad of John Henry? Just one more example of something that a machine can do better than a human.
The only way Kramnik can make a
comeback is to unplug his opponents powercord.
And the only time he could succeed with this simple trick would be when Fritz visits his toilet.
On America’s Fox News cable TV channel, the ticker crawl across the bottom just now reported Kramnik’s blunder.
It also said the match was now 1.5-0.5.
By “just now” I mean 17:45 New York time.
I do not believe that Fox made similar reports during Kramnik-Topalov 2006/10.

My Prediction is still:
5.5 – 0.5 in favor of Fritz.
Kramnik is just to weak,
today he played like a beginner.
With nearly every concievable advantage given to Kramnik in the match rules, if he still can’t win its pathetic
6-6. Kramnik will win the next game and the rest will be drawn. Kramnik has played (not counting the blunder, of course) well and knows that by continuing the same way things are quite OK. No need to be desperate about one blunder which has nothing to do with chess understanding.
3-3, of course. Not 6-6.
After this blunder, Kramnik will rather consider quitting chess. It was disgraceful. He should be replaced with another player, while the seat is hot.
William, thanks for mentioning the ballad, I haven’t heard of it before, but it is very interesting and I found many different variations of the song here

But what is the real criteria on which one can be quite sure that computers are better than humans. For me, that would be the day when some supercomputer (like Hydra) manages to win few matches in correspondence chess. It would be interesting to hear Susan’s opinion about will EVER computers’ brute force search win over human creativity in correspondence chess? I believe we should not underestimate human creativity – look what is happening in the world of Computer Go, for example. There computers will wait for long until they start to win. So far, GM Arno Nickel managed to beat Hydra in correspondence match 2 1/2:1/2
I just posted Kramnik’s reaction at the press conference.
Kramnik is a fine WCC and Fritz 10 has not outplayed him until now… The blunder is the advantage that he is giving to the computer…

– Vinay
my prediction is 4-2 computer wins
Geez, why is everyone wanting to give Kramnik a kick so quickly. Just sounds like Kramnik haters wanting to give him another kick, rather than objective assessments.
In both games, Kramnik has been better, but has missed either ‘winning’ continuations (Game 1) or an obvious tactic (Game 2).
Both of these games have shown that the machine is not a mega monster that starts dominating from move one and Kramnik has plenty of opportunities to come back.
I don’t see how Kramnik can ever win even one game, so I think it may be draws from here to the end (unless V.K. drops another…)
the way he is playing. open positions middlegames which dont offer very good chances of realizing any endgame advantage (ex. symmetrical pawn structures) i dont think Kramnik understands exactly the program’s weakest points and therefore I predict no wins for him.
Kramnik will have another draw which means a total score of 1 point for him..and that will be his total number of point for this event…Believe me Guys..
Hi Susan. This is Hayri Kaya from Turkey. I was shocked when official site played mate in 35th move. But eveyone must now that Kramnik was very impressive in his style to make confused the Fritz10! I don’t care with blunders for me present result is 1-1 nothing changes. If Kramnik looses 5-1 as here guys say will they be so happy? Eh? Go Kramnik your style is impressive agains a so called 3000 rated software. We support you always you can blunder nothing changes you are world champion
Chess book reviewer Taylor Kingston once wrote that the highest quality of human chess occurs in correspondence games, not OTBoard. But is that true?
I can see how it might be true. A human who has a couple days to work out the best move could produce excellent moves.
Yet the chess experts who gravitate toward playing correspondence chess tend not to be the world’s very best chess players.
So which outweighs the other, the player’s chess talent, or the extra time provided by correspondence?
Hydra whipped M.Adams over the board, I think 6-0.
But correspondence player Arno Nickel defeated Hydra 2.5-.5 (see amici link below, you remove spaces).
*** Does the fact Arno had a better result against Hydra (than did Adams) prove Taylor Kingston was right? ***

Well, Kramnik could not outplay Topalov. And he can outplay Fritz by peeking at his opponents opening book and scaling down his opponents endings knowledge, but he then blunders anyway.
Looks like he needs a few sessions with Rybka in the bathroom.
would people kindly stop with the bathroom humor? whether you like kramnik or not, where you think fritz will wipe him out or not, the bathroom jokes are just not funny anymore!
My guess is 3-3 and my another prediction is that champion will win with black whether in 3rd or 5th game. Someone here missing that there are only a few men on this planet to achive advantageous positions in both games against such a ‘calculation monster’ and I think that will continue in other 4 games. If we will look for a real chess mistake played by champion it might be 33..Bxc1 instead of 33..Re8! has more pressure and further can win or at least draw. But 33..Bxc1 is a human move missing and gets draw but 34.Qe3?? was a blind human move with lack of attention.
I fully understand and only smile 🙂 no problem for champions great style!
My prediction is 3-3.
ChessBase will be happy for marketing and Kramnik will not lose the face.
The match is clearly false and useless.
Considering his health problems, Kramnik will probably lose this match. He probably won’t have too much problem drawing the rest of the games if he plays well but if he wants to win he will have to regain his old touch (back when he was much younger)-something I’m not sure he still possesses. I do hope he’ll win though. He’s one of the players whose solidity I respect a lot.
My prediction: 3.5-2.5
>>would people kindly stop with the bathroom humor?
Kramnik will go down in history as the first person who used internet-equipped bathroom.
Kramnik is a disgrace. He might save some face if he returns the chess crown to Topalov.
My Dear Fellow Kramnik Haters,
This is your place. Enjoy your day. Hail and praise Topalov.
Unfortunately most of you don’t have any understanding at all about what went on in these two games. Let me give you a clue. If Kramnik would be able to make 2 right moves which were not very difficult to find (Kasparov found one of them immediately) the score would be 2-0 in favor of Kramnik.
My prediction 3-3.
Fritz 10 is not so strong as some believe it to be. Rybka tears it into pieces.
Cheers
>>If Kramnik would be able to make 2 right moves which were not very difficult to find (Kasparov found one of them immediately) the score would be 2-0 in favor of Kramnik.
Kramink is not able to make even 1 right move without his bathroom internet link.
It is good to note bathroom visits in comments to Kramnik’s games for us to understand what is going on. How can he forget to visit there before Qe3? Unforgivable blunder.
I believe you are correct Susan, the match will be drawn.
Both sides will be happy with that result, especially the sponsors – no other reason can explain Kramnik’s move in game 2.
I do not believe it was a genuine blunder, the great Karpov recently declared Kramnik to be one of the most solid players of all time:he has made a career out of correct, solid almost flawless chess, and even if this move was played in a blitz game it would be unbelievable for an IM to miss a mate in 1, let alone a GM, let alone a Super GM, let alone a world champion.
I hesitate to use the word cheating after the war of words in the recent World Championship Match – but IMHO Kramnik has only himself to blame for any suspicions – especially given his already close association with the “Fritz Family”
I repeat my prediction: the match is fixed, 3:3.
In my last tournament I blundered my queen by overlooking a knight fork. After shakehands I hurried to put all pieces back to their home squares and glanced around to make sure that nobody has seen my blunder. I went home, licked my wounds, and next day I played the best game of my tournament. But my opponent happened to play also his best game, so it was a draw.
This story is different. The whole world is watching. My prediction is 3.5-2.5 at best. Kramnik will have to play it safely, and this will not be enough to beat Fritz
Kramnik has nearly won twice – but has only half a point to show for it. It will be a real test of his character to come back from this disappointment, although the overall trend of the games is encouraging.
Kramnik, is in fine form – in these two games he controlled Fritz just perfectly and went for winning chances in the endgames; though he did not manage to convert them. Unfortunately the last move of game 2 was a nightmare – it should not even count – otherwise kramnik’s play has been perfect. If anything one should be dissapointed by Fritz, which with its presumed rating of 2900 – 3000 has produced very little, if any, in the games.
so go Kramnik!
wish him all the best to win this match.
Comeback for Kramnik is an oxymoron. He is not a fighter like Topalov to make comebacks. Still 3-3 is not unlikely. Fritz can be rigged to lose a game. The farce has to be complete.
>> Unfortunately the last move of game 2 was a nightmare – it should not even count –
Yeah, let’s allow Kramnik to take back moves, and also turn the computer for him to see the screen, please.
Kramnik will not make a comeback. He is too weak to win a game (even with all the unfair advantages he has demanded), and will lose at least one more.
Kramnik is not a great player like his three predecessors Kasparov, Karpov and Fischer, who when Kramnik’s age would have stood a real chance of winning.
Kramnik was lucky enough to play Kasparov when at a temporary one-off peak (and Kasparov on a low due to external factors); he knew he would lose a rematch with Kasparov; so a man without ethics, he deliberately did everything possible to avoid giving Kasparov a reasonable means to qualify to become his challenger.
Let us hope that Kramnik is well and truly slaughterd and is so discouraged that this highly cynical and devious person exits the chess scene. Hooray!
It would be interesting, too, to know how many ‘toilet stops’ Kramnik is taking in these Fritz games. Of course Fritz is not distracted by such tactics, so it would not surprise me if the number of his visits is back to ‘normal’.
No.
Its time to admit we are beaten.
Computers will soon be driving our cars, running our cities and designing our children.
Apparently the blunder in g2 was not in the match scenario so it is getting interesting, but I thing the match was meant to be a tie and could be drawn.
Moreover, the media image of Kramnik was quite a bit overblown recently, both as a chess player and as a person, so the Qe3 blunder brings the things back to the real world.
For those of you, which screamed for evidence of Kramnik cheating, go to this link:
http://www.trud.bg/Default.asp?statid=39851&rubr=0&izd=2&fsize
There you can see the photo of the internet (UTP-5) in Kramnik’s bathroom, made on October 1. There is also official protocol of this finding, complete with signatures, in the newspaper “Trud”. Not a fake, like the letter of support for Kramnik in ChessBase.
‘Comeback for Kramnik is an oxymoron’ no it is not … just look at the matches against Leko and Topalov …
He has been playing great chess, a real treat to watch. Hopefully he can recover from his blunder and tie or even win the match.
>>
I don’t see how Kramnik can ever win even one game, so I think it may be draws from here to the end (unless V.K. drops another…)
>>
Since he has had arguably won positions in both of the first two games, this seems to be a lack of imagination on your part.
>> … just look at the matches against Leko and Topalov …
Matches against Leko and Topalov a comeback? Come on, get serious …
>>
My Prediction is still:
5.5 – 0.5 in favor of Fritz.
Kramnik is just to weak,
today he played like a beginner.
>>
If Kramnik, and, by logical extension, Topalov, are weak players, then who are the strong ones? Anand?
Yes, Anand is strong, Topalov is strong, and Kramnik is just a cheater. The online chess sites are full of cheaters like Kramnik.
Kramnik showed class in milking frtiz10. nevermind the blunder.
go kramnik ! love anand too but topalov is just a sore loser who just plays like a bully.
My prediction is 3:3 either,( as before.)
It is the marketing event not the real match.
Rgds
It is interesting to check if Kramnik again goes to toilet 30-40 times per game. If no, therefore all his explanations in Elista go down…
The more I think about it, the more everything smells. I am a big Kramnik fan. I am also a big Topalov fan. The whole Fritz meeting smells of fish. I said before somewhere that I have met both players albeit extraorinarily briefly. I just have no understanding any more of the chess Elite. Chess playershave always had to my embarrasment,a seedy reputation. Who among you have never played a tournament in a seedy Joint with no heating or om a dodgy hotel with no Parking space and crummy elevators? Chess sharks are everywhere. If it weren’t for people like Susan I think I would pack it all in.
>> topalov is just a sore loser who just plays like a bully.
Playing like a bully till the end is better than drawing in the opening, as Kramnik often does. Early draws shows cowardice and non-professionalism, and also dislike for chess and public.
