After nearly defeating Ivanchuk yesterday, Bu succeeded in knocking out Topalov today. This gives the title to Ivanchuk, or at least a tie for the title (if Ivanchuk loses and Topalov wins tomorrow).

“This gives the title to Ivanchuk.”
That’s wrong! First tie-break is number of wins an with Topalov winning tomorrow and Ivanchuk losing, Topalov would be the winner.
Very curios finish for Bu!
Best regards
Jochen
Bu with white is stronger than Topa, a well-deserved strategecal win!
Chucky hasn’t been given anything, he TAKES the title!
Topa has been GIVENn 2 points by Cheparinov! And it will not help him, that’s the funny part!
So the bottom player in the tournament with 1/7 can suddenly comes close to beating the two top players on 6/7, 6/8. He did better than all the other players this half against the big two- never count someone as an easy prey at this level.
Hi all,
Many fans on the internet mentioned that Ivanchuk has already won the Mtel Master 2008 after Topalov lost against Bu Xianqzhi in the 9 round. However, after refering to the tournament official regulation, I think the winner can only be decide tomorrow. If Ivanchuk lost his last round game tomorrow and Topalov win, they will both have 7 points.
Refering to the tournament regulation, i discuss the tie break criteria in my blog at http://hairulovchessmaniacs.blogspot.com/2008/05/ivanchuk-not-yet-win-mtel-master-2008.html
Read the regulations.
In case of a tie for first place between two players short tie-break matches will be played.
Bu with white stronger than Topa??
What r u talking about?
“Read the regulations.
In case of a tie for first place between two players short tie-break matches will be played.”
Read them yourself, please.
Tie-break matches are only one citeria if none of the other criterias mentioned BEFORE gives a clear winner.
First citeria is number of wins, second one is direct comparison…
If I remember right the third one is the total numbers of moves played.
No tie-break match before that.
Hairulov, have you read my post before posting yours? 🙂
Best regards
Jochen
Re-read them again.
If there are more than two players tieing for first (and to determine other places) THEN those criteria will be used.
If there are two players tieing for first, tie-brek matches will be played.
Thats what it says. I admit, that the regulations could have been writen more carefully and clearly.
“Well, if we follow your stupid logic then Cheparinov also donated 1 point to Ivanchuk as well.”
Nope, the statement is not reversable. Cheparov will not donate points to the other players, because it doens’t make sense. Giving up his white game the way he did against Topa was clear to me and that’s why they made it a safer show with Topa behind the white pieces.
Cheparov didn’t lose to any other player twice! I hope he will tomorrow when he will try his hardest, that’s for sure.
“Bu with white stronger than Topa??
What r u talking about?”
Well, ehm, today’s game perhaps?
Name one win of Topa with black against Bu, ever. Then I will reconsider.
What exactly is wrong with 34…Be3 [?]
“Please, keep your spiteful comments for some other place and go and learn to play some chess.”
Oh, but I will beat you for sure. I’m well over 2400.
Ivanchuk scored 1,5-0,5 against Topalov, that means he is the winner of the tournament in any case.
Hello anonymous 11:52 an 1:51 (I predict, you’re the same) you may be right.
Yeeees, crap, I had to read the whole thing again and again till I see you’re right.
Shame on me!
