Dave is correct, the black pawn is a red herring. Jail bait, poison.
but it is still a cool problem because so many possible ideas do not work. A nice puzzle.
I was on my 5th or 6th key move before I found the answer.

I reckon a chess problem shouldn’t have superfluous pieces. How about putting some more in this puzzle, say white pawns at a2 and h6 and black pawns at a3 and h7? It doesn’t alter the solution, but surely now superfluity is exposed clearly as a bad thing.
I looked at this for the longest time and found four mate in four lines. Didn’t see Kc3 (sigh). Probably the only move I didn’t examine.
Kb3 also results in mate in three if black moves to b5 or b6. However, it leaves the d file open for black to escape by Kd5, though a mate in seven follows.
