FIDE: Morelia-Linares Tournament To Be Rated for April 2008 List
The Morelia-Linares tournament now taking place from 28th February to 7th March in Linares, Spain, shall be rated for the 1st April 2008 FIDE Rating List. See Morelia crosstable. The deadline for tournament reports has been changed to two weeks before each Rating List, by the Qualification Commission headed by Mikko Markkula at the FIDE Congress in Antalya.
According to various unofficial calculations, Magnus will be in the top 5 of the world in the next rating list after Corus and Morelia / Linares (unless there will be some big surprises in the next week or two).
The question is how far can he go. It is virtually a guarantee that he will break 2800 in the future. Can he break Kasparov’s all time record? Can he break 2900? What do you think?
Indeed. He’ll even move towards 2900.
My guess is that he’ll be the first to break 3000, albeit with a little help from inflation.
He will break 2800 mark before his
18th birthday!
Hard to say. He might peak early. It might be like height. Actor Will Smith reached 6′ 2″ (188 cm) at the age of 12, but stopped growing after that.
currently he is even #4,
after anand, kramnik and morozevich, he need at least the
same score as topalov and aronian in last 6 rounds to keep #4 position!
Yes, let’s wait until Linares is finished, before talking top 5 on the next rating list.
everyone has been waiting…….here he is….
Magnus is AWESOME and he will be the new Bobby Fischer!
Take a look at the first picture here http://chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=4483 , and you can just tell what a great guy Anand is! I bet nobody has a bad word to say about his personality!
Yeah, and I think he will be the first to break 4000.C’mon guys give it a break.
where is karjakin and nakamura? certainly not left far behind?
He’s still very young, and he will certainly experience some ups and downs. But based on the things he’s done so far in 2008, it’s hard to imagine that he will not become world #1 one day – if he keeps playing chess.
Magnus in the Top 5!
He is probably gonna halt at around 2775-2785 for some time before he can break past 2800+
Look at his TPR it is always above 2800 easy. He has already been playing at an over 2800 rating. It simply takes time for his actual rating to catch up. He will definitely move right up above 2800 before the end of this year he will be numero uno in the world.
He sure will break 2800 soon if he keeps fighting and hardworking. But it is not so good for a boy only knows chess.
Magnus Carlson’s success is an epitomy of tha fact that chess theory has become so advanced that even dumb kids can become world number 5.
This news of Carlson’s success is a very sad day for chess, indeed.
2765 and #4 according to frogbert.

The fact that you can’t even spell his name says more about you then about Carlsen.
I hope you tried to be ironic in your post, however the doubt I got makes me think otherwise.
I smell jealousy. Plain and simple.
I guess Carlsen should be the kind of inspiration Kasparov needs to come out of retirement.

Kasparov should count himself lucky to not have to play the rising prince of chess. Notice how Kasparov doesn’t mention Magnus. He knows the day Magnus beats him, Kasparov will become another relic of yester-year like Korchnoi or Spassky. Kasparov’s pride could not handle the loss.
magnus will b break the 5000!!
