SPICE Cup Invitational 2012 will break the U.S. record as the highest rated International Invitational RR tournament in history!
The SPICE Institute and the Susan Polgar Foundation have organized multiple category 17 events in the past few years (U.S. record). This time, with the support from Webster University, the SPICE Cup Invitational will be a category 18 tournament with 3 players over 2700! The average rating of the event is approximately 2681!
– GM Le Quang Liem (Vietnam) – Defending champion & #1 in Vietnam
– GM Ding Liren (China) – 3-time and reigning Chinese Champion & #2 in China
– GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (France) – Former World Junior Champion & French Champion
– GM Csaba Balogh (Hungary) – Member of the Hungarian National Team
– GM Wesley So (Philippines) – #1 in the Philippines & Webster University freshman
– GM Georg Meier (Germany) – European Team Champion & Webster University sophomore
In addition to the Invitational, there will be a super strong SPICE Cup Open with 11 GMs and 14 IMs and no entry fee! https://chessdailynews.com/10000-spice-cup-open-in-st-louis-free-entry-2/
it’s very nice to hear that Ms Polgar. Thanks for including GM Wesley So in this prestigious tournament.
Hope the last player’s Nakamura. There’s no US player yet in the line-up.
Nakamura doesn’t play in this type of event. He thinks he’s too good for it.
Of course the USCF will ignore this prestigious event because it’s not organized by the St. Louis Chess Club.
I hope its Judit Polgar..that would be awesome for sure! ^_^
Nakamura will not join this cup. He will not gain anything from this. ELO difference is too far. He belongs to the elite.
Nakamura supports USA Chess, and Webster Univ is a good thing. It would get a lot of press. But I’m dreaming.
If I had to guess, the last person would be between Giri, David Navara, or Dmitry Andreikin.
Ding Liren?
Didn’t want to put the Ding Liren comment there, huh? 😉
