Russian Chess Federation endorses Kirsan Ilyumzhinov for candidate for FIDE President. The news was announced on Wednesday by Arkady Dvorkovich.
The elections for FIDE President will be held in September during the Chess Olympiad in Khanty Mansiysk. Ilyumzhinov is current President of FIDE and he holds this post since 1995. The letter with the decision of the Russian Chess Federation will be sent in the next hours to FIDE. The decision was taken after series of consultations with board members of the Russian Chess Federation.
Dvorkovich expressed the wish that Anatoliy Karpov will continue working with the Russian Chess Federation, despite the fact that Ilyumzhinov was the endorsed candidate for FIDE President.

He’s a good President and has done a lot of good things for chess.
Who did he kill this time to get the nomination?
It is time for a change. I favor Karpov.
It’s embarrassing for chess that a tinpot, corrupt autocrat is head of FIDE.
It speaks ill of the grandmasters themselves that they have not objected to this state of affairs.
The Fischer Spassky 1992 match was a black-eye for chess for similar reasons, but allowing this man to make FIDE his personal fiefdom is even worse.
Anyone with principles would want to leave chess.
In professional sports, people with bad reputations are not allowed to own teams. Chess players ought to think about the image they project with Kirsan as head of FIDE.
I can understand that there are those who decide they would rather play chess and not care.
What really shocks me is that I can’t remember reading one grandmaster saying “enough”.
Are they all such moral cowards? Or even worse, does the question not even occur to them?
The latest poster is a brave man unlike those coward GMs. That’s why he signed his real name.
As for GMs, the majority of them repeatedly expressed their dissatisfaction with the current president. the suggestion to quit chess in a protest is very smart. A good analogy would be to leave the country when you don’t like the president.
