Ray Robson has earned his first GM norm in Tromsø by drawing GM Berg in 76 moves. This also gave him a tie for 1st at the 2009 Arctic Chess Challenge.
Berg did not “give” him a draw. He made Ray earn it by going all out for the win.
I am so happy for Ray and very proud of his accomplishment. He will have a chance to earn another norm at the SPICE Cup next month at Texas Tech University. I am also very happy that both his dedicated parents were on hand to share this special moment with him!
Congratulations to Ray and his family!
