According to ChessFm Blog, US Champion Hikaru Nakamura has been invited to the 2010 Corus A group. The event will take place on January 15-31, 2010 in Wijk aan Zee.

In contrary to some of the previous commentators, I think Nakamura has grown and it is not an act of mercy that he was invited to play in Corus A group, but that belongs there. I don’t know if on his first really heavy-weight event he will succeed. I believe in the process. But his development in the last years was impressive and exciting. I am very curious to see how he will do in Corus. He will certainly draw a crowd.
He seems to have earned his shot at this. Now it is up to him to prepare and show us what he is capable of.
This should be good for him whatever the outcome.

Not sure why he was chosen over 20+ others with better ratings, but I think he can really play balls out and have some fun. He has nothing to lose, and as he says he has no fear of losing. Everyone there is going to be scared of losing to him. Can’t wait to see if he is ready to make the jump to elite
world-class GM.
When talking about ratings, the trend is what counts. Obviously, Naka seems to be on the way up right now…so look out!!
I will respect Hikaru if he spends a couple of years really putting his time into chess study to see how good he can be. He would then deserve respect as a sportsman, no matter whether he became World Champ or whether he didn’t quite make it.
Right now, though, I think he is kind of smugly happy to tell anyone who cares to listen that he is the most talented player out there, and that if he worked at it he would be WC. Guess what, Naka? That is a loser’s attitude, and nobody will be interested unless talk is backed up by results. He played very well at the recent US Open, but now needs to do the work to gain respect as a top sportsman. Great Blitz player with potential counts for nothing
