Indeed he deserves a huge congratulations. After all, he won out of 128 chess players, quite a few from the top echelon.
I for one, value this format more, than when some organizer invites 8 players (whoever they are) in a totally arbitrary fashion and they play one round of round robin (see London Chess Classic, or whatever the official name is).

I like the London Chess Classic much better. This fast elimination is senseless. It does not produce the best challenger for the world champion match.
They may as well flip coins and save energy. Although there is a bias toward the higher rated players winning.
Gelfand won with Rybka installed in that dead poodle hat of his! Someone needs to check and see if a chess computer is hiding in that furry hat!
