This is impossible. White can’t draw this. This is hopeless.
Hmm, the only draw I can see comes from ending up on e2 with the king having got rid of the g and h pawns and the bishop.
Now I can’t see very far..but here’s a few ideas you guys can tell me how to use:
1 Bf8 …kxf8
2 h5…
3 h6… pxh6
4 f7 …
5 run the king to e2 and hope for the best

Yes! I came to the same conclusion, and the black king has to get trapped in the corner too, so as not to be free to march up and gobble pawns.

Ok, I start out instead with:
1 h5 a5
2 h6 PxP
3 g7+ Kxg7
4 Be4 and the bish gets to d5-c4 just in time to stop the a-pawn.
Or…
2 (h6) a4
3 Bg8! –and if 3…a3 or 3…PxP then BxP stopping the a-pawn.
So here’s the cute stalemate line…
3 (Bg8) KxB
4 h7+! Kh8 with the king stuck in the corner (else h8=Q). Mission accomplished. Now the king runs to that stalemate square:
5 Kg2 a3
6 Kf1 a2
7 Ke2 a1=Q (or R) is stalemate.
Any cheapos with an underpromotion?
7 (Ke2) a1=N (a bish would be worthless)
8 Kd1 Nb3 (…NxP KxN stalemate)
9 PxN PxP
10 Kc1 b2+
11 Kb1 c2+
12 Kxc2 b1=Q+
13 KxQ stalemate. The connected passed pawns are useless with the king trapped in the corner.
tvtom: Nice job! It’s funny, in the last lines, depending on Black’s promotion, the draw can be achieved in 3 different ways:
Q or R: White is stalemated
N: Black is stalemated
B: (With “best” play) the 50 move rule
–gb
I came to the same conclusion as posts 3 and 4 as well. I am too lazy to calculate right now.

Cool. I didn’t think about that. Too bad there isn’t a perpetual check variation as well, so we’d have all the bases covered!
Just a small comment. For the bishop underpromotion 7. Ke2 a1B?? there is no draw for black – this is easilly won by white. The bishop is trapped in the corner forever and the only think it does is avoiding the stalemate for black… White only needs to go back to grab the f4 pawn and then march on with his f pawn etc.

Oh, am I so stupid or what? 🙂 Of course the bishop is not trapped. Just ignore my previous post…
