What about first move Ng5,and whatever black move we play Rxc6!

doh! Nice shot Louis… I had seen Nxe5 as a double check and worked out how to “use” it, but missed the more obvious mate with the other knight check!

I’ve seen a similir position in Alburt’s book, 300 Essential Chess Positions which reminded me of the current position. Anyway, 3 cheers for pattern recognition!!!

Yes, this all hinges on Black recapturing the rook on c6…

Yeah….like the others saw…so did I when looking at it…the double sack on c6 but I was looking for a way in for the white B…..then f1 struck me and mate with the night….very nice

Hi everyone, howdy from Japan. It seems that these puzzle problems strike as so awefully difficult in solving, but clear-cut and somewhat artistic when I see the answers. I am still a post-novice and have trouble in solving these, but would like to try them everyday as Susan suggests to improve my chess ability. Chess is not really widespread here in Japan as opposed to other countries, but wish many will soon realise that the game of chess is like an indifinite passport that is usable anywhere in the world to be welcomed by people! hi again ,why all you people say 1…Bxc6 how about …Rb8?If we just win a knight why not first move Ng5?

Where are the big losses for black? The way I look at it, two minor pieces for a rook is not a bad trade when the alternative is a checkmate.

and now?
3.Bf1!! and curtains. 4.Ba6# can’t be countered.
