I would like introduce to you an important chess event: the 10th Corsican Circuit.

Born in 1997, the competition has become more and more important each year and is today the most important semi-blitz international tournament with a prize of 175.000 euros.

2006 edition will see the participation of approximately 50 GMs and IMs! Among them are Anand, Mamedyarov, Bacrot, Bareev, Kasimdzhanov, Naiditsch, Smirin, Sololov, Van Wely, Fressinet, Gurevich, Jusupov, Milov, Onischuk, Sasikiran, Bologan, etc.

I would like to mention that Corsica has one of the highest rates of chess players in the world with 4000 players for only 250.000 inhabitants.

The three stages (Ajaccio 30/31 October, Venaco 2/3 November, Bastia 4/7 November) will be played in 10 minutes + 3 seconds. The focus is also put on the youngest players with lots of prizes for the junior categories.

Beside this blog, it has already been published on www.echecs.com.

Best regards,
Jean-François Giunti
