2. Kramnik vs Carlsen 0:1 Wijk aan Zee
3. I don’t know:-)

Best game is this one:
Bacrot,Etienne (2705) – Leko,Peter (2747)

1. Topalov vs Kramnik 1:0 Wijk aan Zee
is my pick
1: Topalov Kramnik 1:0
2: Nakamura Krasenkow 1:0
3: Topalov Ivanchuk 1:0 (Bilbao)
Yea, Chucky’s Queen sac on e6 versus Karjakin is really nice choice.
It’s not easy to choose 🙂
1. Ivanchuk – Karjakin 1-0 (Nice)
2. Topalov – Kramnik 1-0 (Corus)
3. Kramnik – Anand 0-1 (Bonn, r3)
Moreover, there were some great games during Olympiad (Berg – Topalov 0-1, Caruana – Berg 1-0, Akopian – Vachier-Lagrave 1-0). And remember about Short – Cheparinov from Wijk aan Zee…
No doubt!
1. Topalov vs Kramnik 1:0 Wijk aan Zee
It’s masterpiece not just in 2008!
My top 3 choices for the best game of 2008:
Sutovsky – Vavrak (Plodiv) 1:0
Jakovenko – Cheparinov (Sochi) 1:0
Ivanchuk – Tiviakov (Benidorm) 1:0
topalov – kramnik 1-0 from corus was mind-blowing.
Kramnik vs Carlsen 0:1 Wijk aan Zee
I saw this game on this blog and I think it is definitely the most beautiful game of 2008.
GM Cheparinov (2696) – GM Alekseev (2715) [C95]
Elista, 22.12.2008
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Ba4 Nf6 5.0–0 Be7 6.Re1 b5 7.Bb3 d6 8.c3 0–0 9.h3 Nb8 10.d4 Nbd7 11.Nbd2 Bb7 12.Bc2 Re8 13.a4 Bf8 14.Bd3 c6 15.b3 Qc7 16.Bb2 g6 17.Qc2 Rac8 18.Bf1 Qb8 19.Rad1 Bg7 20.g3 Ba8 21.axb5 axb5 22.b4 Bf8 23.Qb3 h6 24.dxe5 Nxe5 25.c4 bxc4 26.Nxc4 Nfd7 27.Nfxe5 Nxe5 28.Nxe5 dxe5 29.Rd7 Re7 30.Red1 Rce8 31.Bc4 Kg7 32.Qf3 c5 33.Qxf7+ Rxf7 34.Rxf7+ Kh8 35.Rdd7 White wins 1–0
Without question – Vladimir Akopian v Vachier’Lagrave at the Dortmund Olympiad.
Levon Aronian vs Andrei Volokitin, 22/10/2008, Kallithea, European Club Cup.
Anand – Aronian, 0-1, Morelia 16.02.2008.
I see a lot of Krasenkow Nakamura 0:1, but that game was in 2007, not 2008.
Levon Aronian vs Teimour Radjabov Wijk Aan Zee 1-0. Aronian took Radjabov apart in the most destructive way possible. Superb.

Berg-Topalov, 0-1 Dresden Ol.
Caruana-Berg, 1-0 Dresden Ol.

Ivanchuk-Tiviakov, 1-0 Benidorm, featured by ChessVibes
Cheparinov-Alekseev, 1-0 Elista GP

Aronian-Radjabov, 1-0 Corus.
I did this so that I can actually play thru them in my next free time… :-).
Nobody has chosen a draw as their best game of 2008.
Maybe a lazy approach but you could choose from ICC’s Game of he week:

GOTW/Gameoftheweek.html
Oh – I see some of you did 🙂
Aronian – Leko, Morelia 22.02.2008, 1/2 was a thriller. “a spoiled novelty – Leko’s deep think”. Wonderful game.
My top 3 is:
1 Topalov vs Kramnik 1-0 Wijk aan Zee
2 Carlsen vs Ivanchuk 1-0 Aerosvit
3. Kramnik vs Anand 0-1 Bonn WCC, game3
