Barbados-001

Please be informed that a new executive board has been elected for the period 2016-2018. The new board is as follows:

President- Mr Allan Herbert
1st VP- Mr Wendell Cumberbatch
2nd VP- Mr Trevor Griffith IA
3rd  VP- Mr Kelvin Daniel  IA
General Secretary –  Ms. Katrina Blackman WCM
Treasurer – Mrs. Donna Murray- Forde

The new board brings with it  a wealth of experience. Mr Herbert has served as president in the past . He is also chairperson of FIDE’s development commission and Treasurer of CCA.
Mr Daniel and Mr Griffith have been elected to their previous posts. They are both International Arbiters with many years of experience going back their junior years as players. Mr Daniel still plays in tournaments periodically.
Mr Cumberbatch is new to chess administration. However, he has vast experience in the business and service sector. As a former Bodybuilder, he also has a background in Sports Administration. He is the father of current Ladies National Champion Gabriela Cumberbatch.
Mrs. Murray- Forde and WCM Ms. Katrina Blackman are both active players and regular members of the Olympiad team. Both are former Ladies National champions. Ms Blackman had the honour in 2015 of being only  the 2nd Barbadian female in history to qualify for the Absolute National Championships. Mrs. Murray is a trained accountant with a background in financial management. Ms. Blackman graduated from UWI Cave Hill Campus in 2015 with a double major in IT and Accounts. She currently works in the Foreign Exchange Department of a major financial institution in Barbados.
It is to be noted that this is first time that 2 females have been elected the BCF’s executive board. This augurs well for the development of women’s chess in Barbados at both the competitive and administration levels.
On behalf of the members, supporters, sponsors and myself, I would like to wish the executive board success in their endeavours as they seek to promote this beloved sport of ours- CHESS- in Barbados and the region.
Rohan Waithe
Immediate Past President
