GURGAON: A nine-year-old school boy was assaulted by a teacher whom he defeated in a game of chess. Police have lodged a complaint after a sports teacher allegedly twisted the nose of the Class V boy, Prince, which made him bleed profusely, and also slapped him twice when the child was adjusting his badge.

Anil Hada, chairman of Meenakshi Public School, said: “It was just the result of a misunderstanding.” He also mentioned that they had arrived at an understanding with the student’s family and now there is no issue.

The incident was reported on Wednesday, but the police complaint was made on Thursday, after the child told his relatives. Police had registered a complaint, but later said the two parties had come to an understanding and the matter had been sorted out.

The victim had alleged that apart from the chess incident, the teacher identified as Sumesh Sharana Reddy, had slapped him on another occasion as well and threatened that he would not be allowed to take part in sports if he told anybody about the incident. The child’s parents stay in Rajasthan as they work there. “This was no harassment of the student concerned. The instructor might have touched the nose of the child and the injury was just accidental,” said school chairman Hada.
