1. Re6! 1-0
If not Qxe6, White mates in a few moves!
1. Re6
Ne6 if Rg8, then White can take g7, RxKg7 and Qf7, if Black plays Qg8, then Re8 and Black Queen and rook are pinned!

Since this is a puzzle, I’m thinking that the 1st move isn’t
just moving the N (!) Then spotted
1.Re6! taking advantage of WB pin on g7. If 1….hxg5 2.Rh6#
If 1….Rf6 2.Rxf6 (2….gxf6
3.Bxf6#)
Over the board, I’d prob. play Re6 anyway, and poss. be surprised
by my opponent’s ingenious replies!

1Re6 Threat Rh6
1. Re6 threatens mate on h6. It looks like Black has to give up his Q for it, and after 2. Q:e6 the mate threat on h6 is still on.
Well, the eye falls on Nf7 first simply because it resembles the smothered mate motif, but black’s h-pawn is on h6 instead of h7, so black’s king can safely escape to h7 rather than having to capture at f7. It took me a few minutes to realize that Re6 is killing- I don’t see a way to avoid mate.
