1.) Bxh7+ Kxh7
if 1.) … K-h8 2.)Q-h5 winning
if 1.) … K-f7 2.) Q-h5+ winning
2.) Qh5+ Kg8
3.) g6 winning ( 3.) …R-f8 moves then Qh7+ … Qh8#
fast shot:
1. Bxh7+ Kxh7
2. Qh5+ Kg8
3. g6
and matt on h7 seems unavoidable
somebody else was faster, so what
Black is a knight up. So even if black enjoys the luxury of sacrificing a bishop or knight.
1. Bxh7+ Kh8
2. Qh5 Bxg5
3. fxg5 g6
4. Bxg6+ Kg8
and game goes on.
@chandra: don’t think that the game is going on:
5.Rg1 1:0
Qh6 threatning h7 black responds h6 to prevent queen from h7. white side steps this with Qg6. black now is in trouble. he responds with Qf8 trying to force an exchange of queens. white will have none of this and plays Qh7+ black Kf7 white finishes off black with Bg6.
1.) Bxh7+ K-h8
2.) B-g6! winning
if 2.) … Bxg5 3.)fxg5 and black can’t contend with white’s: 4.) Q-h5 winning
anonmymous:
1. Qh5 g6
2. Bxg6 hxg6
3. Qxg6+ Kh8
I think White’s attack fizzles.
4. Qh6+ Kg8
5. g6 Bf6
???
Agree with the first anon. It’s standard attacking procedures against the h7 pawn. The Art of Combination in Chess by Znosko-Borovsky for you. It’s science!
No defensive piece and two pieces easily mating (Q+B if proffered sac not taken and Q+p if taken).
1. B:h7+
if 1…, K:h7 then
2. Qh5+, Kg8
3. g6
with mate to follow
if 1…, Kh8 then
2. Qh5 followed by discovered check and mate.
Gosh, studying all those games with a Bh7+ sacrifice helped. 🙂
I still dont see any mate after
1. Bxh7+ Kh8
2. Qh5 Bxg5
3. fxg5 g6
4. Bxg6+ Kg8
5. Rg1 is also a good move
True that White is in advantage, but I dont see a quick mate here 🙁
@Chandra,
You’re right, B:g5 stops the mate. I still think White has a winning advantage, however.
What about:
1. Bxh7 Kh8
2. g6 immediately, threatening Qh5, Bg8, and mate on h7
How does black defend?
I correct myself. I didn’t saw how the first anon handled the refusal of the Bishop. Still mating after 2.Bg6 (anon#5 got this one) and the the threat of Qh5.
Re anon at 6:14am: what happens with
1. Bxh7 Kh8
2. Bg6 Rxf4 (or Rf5)
etc.
Black’s king can now escape to f8, so the mate maybe goes away.
I’m anon from 6:14 am.
1.) Bxh7+ Kh8
2.) Bg6! winning
If 2.) …Rxf4 (or Rf5)
then
3.) Qh5+ Kg8
4.) Qh7+ Kf8
5.) Qh8# the black king can’t slip away
