What’s the best way to eliminate the knight on e8? Try 1. Rxe4 Qxe4 2. Re1
Now where will the queen go? 3. Rxe8 either wins the knight or sets up checkmate on g7.
I want to play Rxe4 threatening Rxe8 and if Qxe4 Re1 where black has to allow the plan or lose the queen for a rook giving white queen and bishop for two rooks
I want to try 1. Bf3 (desviation in the bishop on e4) if 1. … Bxf3 2. Rxd8 (destroying the defence) If 2. … Rxd8 3. Qxg7 check mate. Now if 2. … f6 3.Rxf8+ black whathever and 4. Qxf3.
1. Rxe4 Qxe4
2. Bf3 wins a piece
To previous anonymous poster:
1. …Bxf3 is not forced
1. Rxe4 Qxe4
2. Re1 with the idea of Rxe8 and Qxg7# almost works if black did not have 2. …Qh7
1. Rxe4 Qxe4
2. Bf3 wins a piece
1. Rxe4 Qxe4
2. Re1 with the idea of Rxe8 and Qxg7# almost works if black didn’t have 2. …Qh7

han
A possible line is:
1. Rxe4 Qxe4
2. Re1 Bxf2+ (otherwise comes Rxe8 and black can’t take back)
3. Kxf2 Qh4+
(or 3. … Qf4+ 4. Bf3 threatening the rook on a1 in addition to e8/g7)
4. Kg1 Qg5 and the treats on e8/g7 are protected. Black has sufficient for the two bishops?
1. Rex4 Qxe4
2. Bf3 picks up a piece.
Oroginally I thought
1. Bxe4 Qxe4
2. Re1 Q somewhere
3. Rxe8 with a mate threat on g7
but 2… Qf4/5
3. Rxe8 Qxf2
4. Kg1 Qh4 mate is not so good for white
As well as
1. Bf3 not working because Bxf3 is not forced, there is another problem with it
1. Bf3 Bxf3
2. Rxe8 Qg4
defends the mate and threatens Qxg2 mate. The best i can for white then is a liquidation down to an endgame where he is significantly worse.
Bf3 is one try, a bit more consequent probably is playing
1. Rxe4 Qxe4
2. Re1 …
Now the Queen can not cover g7, which allows Rxe8 after all moves beside Qxe1, Qe5, Qd4, Qg4 or Qg6. The best is obviously Qxe1, but it is an easy win or White then anyway. Nothing better is playing 1. Qg5 or 1. Qf6 instead of Qxe4. Black has lost a piece and his position is simply poor.
1.Rxe4! Qxe4
2.Bf3 Q moves
3.Bxa8 and white is a piece up (or?).
Another try is 2.Re1 but then black queen goes to h7 and defends g7, so 3.Rxe8 followed by 4.Qxg7 doesn’t work.
I only had a quick look, so I could be wrong.
1.Rxe4 Qxe4 2.Bf3 should win the Ra8
RxB
1. Re4 Qe4
2. Bf3 & wins a piece
2. Re1 will not work because of the following continuation:
2. Re1 Qh4
3. Re8 Qf2+
4. Kh2 Qh4+
5. Qh3 Qh3+
6. either K or g pawn takes the Q
black follow with Rfe8
and black has material advantage
