Rc8 looks strong, i think black has to play Rg8 then, and i think there has to be a good continuation for white. greets, jan
1. Rc8 1.Qg8 (only option)
2. Qf5+- black has to give up his queen
I dont see something like a “petite combinaison”, nevertheless White should win by playing Rc8. Qg8 seems to be forced (otherwise Blacks looses the Queen). After Qg8 White plays f7 and after Qf8 White wins with Qf5. I dont see a defence against Rxd8, Qxd8, Rc8. In notation:
1. Rc8 1. Qg8
2. f7 2. Qf8
3. Rxd8 3. Qxd8
4. Qf5 4. Kg7
5. Rc8 5. Qe7
6. f8Q+ wins
1. Rc8 Rxc8
2. Rxc8+ Qg8
3. Rxg8+ Kxg8
4. g5 must be winning.
or
1. Rc8 Qxe4
2. Rxd8+ Kh7
3. Rc7+ etc.
or
1. Rc8 Qd7
2. Qf5 looks good for white
I’m not very good at analysis but I think white should play Qxh7.
1. Qxh7 Rxh7 2. Rc8 Rd7 3. g5 Kg8
(1. Rc7 Qxe4 2. fxe4 Rf8 3. g5 Rg6 4. Rc8 Kg8 5. Rc7)
(1. f7 Rxc6 2. Rxc6 Qxe4 3. fxe4 f3)
(1. g5 Qxe4 2. fxe4 Rg6 3. Rc8 Rg8 4. Rc6 f3)
(1. Rc8 Qg8 2. f7 Qf8 3. Qf5 Rh7)
I don’t have time at the moment for a full analysis, but I would play Rc8 since I don’t see a real defense to this move for black.
Like I wrote, Rc8 looks powerful:
1. Rc8 Rg8 (alternatives below)
2. Rg8 Qg8 (Kg8 3.Rc8 Kf7 4.Rc7)
3. Qf5! Bc3 (what else?)
4. g5 Qg6 (alternatives below)
5. Qc8 Kh7
6. Qd7 Kg8 (Kh8 7.Qg7 Qg7 8.fg7)
7. f7 Qf7 (everything loses)
8. Qf7 Kf7
9. gh6 and white wins this ending easily. At move 4, black can do no better with the following replies:
4. …..Rh7 (Rg6 5.f7; Rh5 5.f7+-)
5. g6 e4 (what else?)
And here is black’s last chance if white is too hasty- 6.gh7 draws after black plays Qg3+. Better is to just push the d-pawn:
6. d6 e3 (ef3 or a4 no better)
7. d7 Rd7 (only move I see)
8. Qh5 Rh7
9. g7 Qg7
10.fg7 with an easy win.
At move 1, black does no better with the following defenses:
1. Rc8 Qg8
2. f7 Rc8
3. fg8(Q)Rg8
4. Rc7 and white will win this easily. Or
1. ……Bb6
2. Qe5 Qf7 (what else?)
3. Rd8 Bd8
4. Rc8 Qf6 (best I see)
5. Rd8 Kg7
6. Qc7 and white will win the queen for the rook.
Excuse me, where and when can I find the proper solution of a chess-puzzle posted in this blog generally? (To compare with mine)
I only post the answer if no one gets it 🙂
This is usually never the case. Someone always gets it right.
Best wishes,
Susan
The variation that I had to find before I decided that Rc8 was absolutely the correct move was:
1. Rc8 Qxe4
2. Rxd8+ Kh7
3. Rc7+ Kg6
4. Rg8+ Kxf6
5. g5+ Kf5
6. Rf7+ Rf6
7. Rxf6#
