Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Hello Susan!
There will be an eight game rapid match between Peter Leko and Viswanathan Anand in Miskolc in June (2-7.)
It was revealed today.
why did Levon lose half a point today?
okay
Light-square blockade and impossibility to create open files for his rooks.
Or you can just say that Carlsen played a good defensive positional exchange sacrifice, which means that Aronian did NOT lose a 1/2 point.
Bruno
I think Aronian wouldn’t have lost anything if he kept playing for a little longer. There were no big risks, and he could expect the columns to become open at some point. Or maybe, to give back the exchange for some positional advantage and go into a pawn ending. Anyhow, i don’t see Aronian losing had he tried for longer.
Yes, with that I agree, no need to draw immediately. But against the number 3 in the world, in a very balanced position, is it worth it spending the energy? After all, they play fourteen rounds with only one rest day each 3/4 days.
Although I think common mortals (such as myself) should play these positions until they’ve sucked all the juice out of it, I think that these guys can take it easy. I don’t think this qualified as a GM draw.
Bruno
Sorry, I think “SQUEEZED all the juice out of it” is the common expression.
Bruno
This position is equal, that’s why it’s a draw. Not so much because one is ranked 5th or 30th or 100th in the world.
A bishop on d5, and white’s pawn structure without teeth even out. White needs open files for the rooks: it’s not going to happen.
