Armenian women in painful defeats at WC in Turkey

Armenians participating in the FIDE Women’s World Chess Team Championships in Mardin, Turkey, lost to China 0-4 in the third round of play on Wednesday – their second defeat in a row at the current tournament.

Earlier, the Armenian team (GM Elina Danielyan, Armenia’s IM Lilit Mkrtchyan, IM Lilit Galoyan and WGM Maria Kursova) lost to Georgia 1.5-2.5 after beating Greece 4-0 in the opening round.

Before the fourth round scheduled for Wednesday (and setting the team against India) Armenia are in sixth place among ten participating nations that also include Russia, Vietnam, Turkey, Ukraine and South Africa.

The round-robin tournament is due to end on December 28.
