Jermuk presents Armenia as intellectual chess empire

Armenia’s Prime Minister Tigran Sarkisian participated Monday in the ceremony of closing the forth stage of the FIDE Gran Prix among women, which took place in Jermuk, a spokesperson to government told media.
Welcoming the tournament’s participants and guests, Armenian Prime Minister stressed the importance of tournament’s holding on Jermuk, which is turning into the world chess center. Sarkisian said that chess fans closely watched the rounds between best female players in Jermuk. “The best players gathered in Jermuk today,” said Sarkisian. “And due to this great event the world has an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful women’s championship.”
Congratulating tournament’s winners and participants, Sarkisian said: “I believe that this chess event will contribute to development of chess in Armenia, which will be presented to world as a great and intellectual empire.”
The tournament was held in Armenia’s Jermuk from June 25 to July 5; its winner is Georgia’s Nana Dzagnidze; Russia’s Tatiana Kosintseva seeded the second, and Armenia’s Lilit Mkrtchian is the third-seeded.
