President Jimmy Carter reported that he saw a UFO above Leary, Ga., in 1969. He filed a report about the sighting to the International UFO Bureau in 1973.

(July 6) — It’s an age-old question: Are we alone in the universe? As the documentary “Out of the Blue” rightly points out, brilliant and reputable scientists believe that the conditions for intelligent life exist on thousands of planets. But then there’s that other question that separates the scientists from the believers, the witnesses from the skeptics – if aliens are out there, have they come to visit?
James Fox, the producer of “Out of the Blue,” says that aliens are out there. “They’re flying around. They’re here and they’ve been here.”
He also believes that they have incredible technical ability, saying that they can “fly rings around our fastest jets. Yes. That’s what I’ve been told. They can literally almost disappear in place.”
“Out of the Blue” is an attempt to weed out the wackos and present credible witnesses who say they saw what looked like alien spacecraft. Witnesses like former President Carter, who said, “I saw one, but I don’t know where. It just disappeared.” And Mercury astronaut Gordon Cooper, who says he saw “this typical saucer shape, double-cylindrical shape, metallic.”
Flying Saucers
“I looked up and all of a sudden there was this, you know, I got to say it, flying saucer,” said Sean Thackery, from Marin, Calif., one of the eyewitnesses in the film.
“You’ve got this phenomenon taking place that’s never been properly explained,” said Fox. “You know, people — people wanna know.”

I think craft needed for interdimensional travel is far more likely rather than craft for traveling huge distances.
It’ll be good to have some Human-Alien Chess Competitions!!!
Not a word about Kirsan and his yellow-spacesuit. The author didn’t put much in this article for the chessplayer
I doubt that Human-Alien Chess Competitions would be likely. As much as I like chess, the competitions would likely be with “universal” games that are complex in strategy, yet so simple and elegant in form that they could have been created simultaneously throughout the universe.
Examples of such games are “Go” and its younger sibling “Connect6” (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Connect6 ), the latter of which I think is great to teach young kids who are learning chess or who plan to learn chess to help develop their analytic skills.
THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE! X-Files.
We know of one technological species – ourselves. Maybe they’re time travelers.
bollocks…
I believe there has to be intelligent beings on other planets. It is too egocentric of us to think we are alone. However, the laws of physics keep us separated. It simply takes too long for matter to travel the distance.
if matter approaches the speed of light then the mass becomes infinite. There are simple physical limits to moving matter through space. You can not break the laws of physics.
There is no reason to doubt that other intelligent species exist on other planets, probably thousands.
In 1974, we have beamed a radio message into space, aimed to the globular star cluster Messier 13. This message is so abstract and ingenius, that other species, if they have a similar scientific and technological level, have a good chance to decipher it – even if they are entirely different from all beings we know.

From my viewpoint, a radio contact is all we can hope for. Earliest year to expect a reply from M13: 47,574 (!)
(Or tomorrow, if a nearby alien spacecraft has read the transmission :-))
That message will travel through the universe and tell about us, that we are a species trying to look over the horizons, and to communicate.
OK, you Earthlings finally found me, now all I’ve got to do is convince you that aliens have feelings, too!
