White to move and win. It is very long so think carefully. Try not to use computer analysis. Think for yourself. Just like the last endgame puzzle, try to think about what White is trying to accomplish.

I would try 1.b6+ K-any 2.h4 so white would queen first and control black’s queening square (a1).
After 1. b6+ black would play Kb8 and go for the stalemate.

Hi, yes but he can go Qg8 not to take a1 and stalemate. The plan is somewhere to move white K and is mate with Q 8-rank.Right?

I played it out. It was pretty tricky White promotes to queen, but can’t check because his king is blocking. So black queens on the next move. But you can’t take the black queen because of stalemate! So after much trial and error I found the idea was to get the white queen to e5, which gives white a free check. This check moves the black king to a8, which removes a potential stale mate.
I had to do a lot of moving and re setting up. I don’t think I could have every figured this out in a real game.

That is why I believe endgame is very important. It stinks to lose 1/2 point or even a full point after so many hours of playing.

1.b6+ Kb8 2.h4 a5 3.h5 a4 4.h6 a3 7.h7 a2 8.h8Q a1Q 9.Qg8! (this move prevents -Qg7) Qa2 10.Qe8 Qa4 11.Qe5+ Ka8 12.Qh8 wins.
So the trick is to force the king to a8.
good puzzle. so simple but so difficult.
