Can someone who understands what chess players go through at this level of competition explain what Kramnik did today? According to the Chessgames.com database, Kramnik’s 63 games with Black in the Petrov give him a -4 score; Grischuk’s 22 games with White give him a +2 score. So why did Kramnik choose this line at this point in this tournament? Earlier in the tournament, he drew with this opening against Anand and Svidler. After his intense game vs. Anand yesterday, and Grischuk’s loss, were they both simply resting? If so, has Kramnik virtually conceded the tournament?
Maybe he was reserving his strength before tomorrow’s rest day to make a big push at the end, hoping his remaining 2 Whites and 1 Black, together with Anand’s 2 Blacks and 1 White, could make up the 1.5 point difference (had Anand played a draw today).
Just wondering.

I suspect he is conceding, knowing he will get an immediate match against Anand. If he won, he would have to play Topalov, which I’m sure he would find distasteful.
..too many theories.
As he said in the pressconference, he prepared the petrov defense to play during the tournament and it is up to both players if they want to play a sharp line or not. He simply sticks to his choice of opening. One can only blame him for not preparing something else. I’m happy to see him play at least the petrov and not the berlin defense 🙂
Draw is a logical out come of chess! People seem to complain about them but even at my low level (2200) of chess draws this happens.
i was wondering how much money kramnik won by playing a 13 move game, personally i think he knows he will still be achampion, until 2011. So whats better to play topalov or anand? why not share the glory ? seeing anand is so popular and enjoy mexico instead?
all the rest of the players cant do that except the beginners like grischuk or moroz. is svidler already out of the gm league???
heres a game of mine i played the same day, ask how much dough i made out of it???

dont u think i should play instead of Kramnik when he dont feel like playing????
which game would u pick out of hes with grischuk or this one.
well at least u get to have an extra game on round 11.
by the way what does anand remind you about???
easy since fischers time nobody else had a go against all soviet union, if u look carefully its anand against russia really, even leko was part of urss.
goodday and email me about my questions to jcalekhine@yahoo.com.mx bye, jb.
