Mumbai: An elated Viswanathan Anand’s father declared that his son is the greatest chess player ever to be born. “Yes, I think so (that he is the greatest),” the proud father told DNA late on Tuesday night, shortly after his son defended the World Chess Championship with black pieces against challenger Veselin Topalov in Sofia, Bulgaria, on Tuesday.
When asked if he thought his son was greater even than the Russian legend, Gary Kasparov, considered the greatest of all time, he answered in the affirmative. “The answer will vary from person to person as the circumstances were different. But yes, according to me, Anand is the greatest,” Krishnamurthy Viswanathan, who retired as general manager of Southern Railway, said.

Anand just retained his world championship title. It was a tough match. He deserves to be talked about for a day or two. Many media sources jumped in to interview Anand. I am just sharing some of them with the bloggers here. It has nothing to do with being impartial.
In addition, this is a very difficult loss for Topalov. He needs time to regroup. What do you want me to say about it, that he lost? I have not even written my match summary yet.
Best wishes,

Susan: We are awaiting your match summary, please don’t postpone it for long.
Also it would be interesting to find out comments from top GMs and peers of Anand and Topalov about this fantastic match between these two players.
I also would like your comment on Topalov’s assessment on game 12 where he says, he took certain risks and he got punished – when the whole chess community talks about the two pawn strikings as blunders, how come a top GM like Topalov could blunder on two consecutive moves?
Susan: Here is another Anand interview link if you wish you could post in your blog.

One common thread from all these Anand interviews is that he keeps asserting that this has been the toughest match and that anyone could have won.
This is a testimony from the champion himself which in fact is a tribute to his opponent.
Topalov, even though it will be a devastating loss, can always take pride in providing the stiffest competition as the challenger and stretching the match right until the 12th game where nerves? / mis-calculation? got the better of him. Indeed a gallant loser, he should look forward to the future taking the learnings from this match.
I am sure Topalov will emerge more stronger than ever and Anand keeps improving further. What a boon to the Chess community!
My special thanks are reserved to GM Susan for the great coverage without any databases during the entire match.
Anand on Topalov: “He is one of the strongest players in the world. I think he is one of the grittiest and I feel a decade older after this match”.
