Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Alien is cheating, he’s playing black first ! 🙂
At this point, it seems Anand will will win the event. Anand’s last 3 games seem pretty straight forward since the opponents are the lowest rated. Nakamura has a tough game ahead (Kramnik)….and Carlsen already killed his chances by his poor performance against Giri and the tournament overall.
In the picture, which is Anand and which is Nakamura?
Anand’s last 3 games are apodictically not against “the lowest rated”. He’s got the Black pieces against two elite (i.e. 2700+) GMs, Vachier-LaGrave and Nepomniachtchi, and plays White against the soon to be elite GM, Giri. He could well, imho, draw out and finish at his current +4.
It’s Aronian who has the seemingly ‘soft’ schedule and should, in all liklihood, reach at least the same +4 score. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to see Anand and Aronian finish joint 1st – which would be rather fitting since they are (this very moment) the 2 highest rated players on the planet.
Oddly enough, Anand has never faced Vachier-LaGrace nor Giri (according to chessgames.com). He has played Nepo two rapid games at Mainz in late 2009 and surprisingly only scored 0.5/2.
