Game Result: Xavier School 164 – Grace Christian College 74

Before a crowd of nearly 700, prolific Jeron Teng set a new all-time single-game record of 104 points in powering three-time reigning titlist Xavier School to a 164-74 rout of Grace Christian College in their first-round Juniors Division encounter Wednesday night in 41st Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball Association high school tournament.

Teng, who also grabbed 24 rebounds (20 of them on the offensive end) and collected six steals and two blocked shots in 35 minutes, broke the old all-time Tiong Lian scoring mark of 64 points, which Xavier School’s Eric Yao (who knocked in 10 triples) set during the 1998 season.

A member of the Philippine Under-16 and Under-18 teams, the 6-1 son of former PBA strongman Alvin Teng shot 37-for-70 from the field (including 1-for-5 from beyond the three-point arc) and 29-for-34 from the free-throw line.

Jeron, a high school junior who is being wooed to suit up for the Under-22 Ph national squad, had quarter scores of 27, 16, 25 and 36 points.

Jeron made his record-breaking 65th and 66th points with four minutes left in the third quarter and Xavier ahead, 99-42, and knocked in his 99th and 100th markers on a pair of free throws with 1:08 left in the fourth period and the Golden Stallions comfortably ahead, 160-72.
