(CROSSVILLE, TN) Chess organizations for North America, Mexico, as well as FIDE have announced the NAYCC will be held October 5 through 7, 2007, at the Las Trojes Hotel in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

Open to players from Bermuda, Canada, United States, and Mexico, the event is a qualifier for the 2008 Pan-American Youth Festival. It also provides the opportunity to achieve a Candidate Master title.

Official representatives of the U.S. delegation will be determined based on the August 2007 Rating Supplement, with the highest rated player in each age category attending the tournament as the official representative. These registrations must be received by the Scholastic Office of the U.S. Chess Federation no later than September 14, 2007.

Those not qualifying as official representatives can register through the USCF offices, and a payment of $50.

A seven round Swiss System will allow a rate of play of ninety minutes, plus thirty seconds per move, per player for all games. The age categories are under 8; under 10; under 12, under 14, under 16, and under 18. Final ranking will be determined by the number of points scored, with a tie-breaking system should two or more players score the same highest number.

The University of Texas at Brownsville/TSC is providing a special training camp headed by GM Gilberto for those students interested in last minute cramming for the Championships. At a cost of $200 per student, a minimum of six hours training will be provided on each of the camp’s days, October 2nd and 3rd.

Families wishing to accompany Championship players may contact the hotel directly to arrange housing and food.
