Information and Regulationsof the International Chess Open Festival “AEROFLOT OPEN 2008”
General information of the festival:
The International Chess Festival “Aeroflot Open 2008” will be held in Moscow from 13 February (the day of arrival) to 23 February 2008 (the day of departure).The official hotel and tournament venue is hotel “Gamma-Delta” belonging to the Tourist Complex “Ismailovo”.The Organizers of the Festival are the “Aeroflot-Russian Airlines”, the Association of Chess Federations and the Russian Chess Federation in cooperation with the Committee on Tourism of the Municipality of Moscow.
Type of Chess Festival:
The festival consists of four tournaments. Each tournament is a nine rounds Swiss Tournament.
The Tournaments and Prize Fund:
The total prize fund of the four tournaments is 200 000 USD.
Tournament A1: for chessplayers with a FIDE rating higher than 2549.
Total prize fund Group A1: 100,000 USD
1st Prize 30,000 USD
2nd Prize 17,000 USD
3rd Prize 10,000 USD
4th Prize 6,000 USD
5th Prize 4,000 USD
6th – 10th Prize each 2,500 USD
11th – 15th Prize each 1,700 USD
16th -20th Prize each 1,000 USD
21st – 30th Prize each 700 USD

How can you compare the World Open and Foxwoods with Aeroflot. They’re not in the same league. Aeroflot is even stronger than the NY Open years ago.

Of course conditions are better. The organizers of Aeroflot care about chess, care about the players, care about making a positive impact.
