Express report by John Saunders

Nakamura was the leader by two points before round seven, when he had the bye, but no fewer than three players leapfrogged over him by winning their games. Luke McShane is the new leader on tie-break with two rounds to go, by virtue of his wins with Black. He beat English colleague Nigel Short who tried a King’s Gambit against him.

Vladimir Kramnik and Magnus Carlsen are on the same score of 12, having defeated David Howell and Mickey Adams respectively. The game between Aronian and Anand was a fairly sedate draw.
