New Delhi, October 15: After becoming the chess world champion for the second time, Viswanathan Anand had wondered what kind of a reception he would get once when he got back to India.

And last night, at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, he could not have complained. There were a number of fans waiting for him, despite the fact that his flight landed way past midnight.

Anand today said he was “touched” by the enthusiasm shown by his fans who received him at the airport on his first homecoming a fortnight after winning the crown in Mexico. “I was touched to see the boisterous crowd. It felt very special that everyone came to the airport for me at 1 am,” he said.

Anand said he was “moved” and described people’s behaviour as “enthusiastic”. “I was just moved. It was an enthusiastic crowd,” he insisted.
